DOO-DAH ROOM
'Well, that sounds a bit BDSM' is what everyone tells me but that really is not intentional. I'm not particularly interested in that whole scene (though, what with this and Safeword, I can see why a case could be made - oh well). I did visit the Torture Garden (a famous S&M club in London) a couple of times in the 90's but never did any.... gardening.
I guess, thinking about it (try to NEVER think about it) it was more about making a Room - a locus of something - a contained atmosphere/space - like an aquarium. I am quite big on that (see Elated World (Cornell Boxes)). Boundaries, limits... are the point I think. They are nice. Confinement can be comforting. Oh no, there I go again (perv).
And yes, for some other, uninspected reason AE Housman (a Shropshire Lad) is rudely co-opted at the end:

Although I've twisted his meaning - of not daring - quite - to do the 'mischief' he would like to do - into the more Shriekbackian meditation on one's (possibly) essential Badness. 'Others, I am not the worst...'
